Training Curriculum

This Basic Workplace Digital Skills training program has been designed with four (4) training workshops for a total duration of approximately seven (7) hours. The development of this training was based on a Digital Skills theoretical framework, based on solid past research in the field of essential and digital skills.

COMMUNICATING WITH CO-WORKERS
BY EMAIL

Estimated length of time: 1.8 hours 

Learn the useful functions of email including: Replying to an email, sending a new email, moving an email, transferring an email, deleting an email, opening an email attachment, recognizing fraudulent email attachments, using the Cc and Bcc functions, and choosing a degree of priority for an email. This workshop gives special attention to the implementation of cyber security. 

OBJECTIVES

  • Accessing the Outlook Application

  • Accessing different folders

  • Accessing new emails

  • Using the “reply” function

  • Creating and sending a new email

  • Using the “reply all” and “forward” functions

  • Determining whether an email is important

  • Determining if an email is fraudulent

  • Using the Cc and Bcc functions

  • Opening an attachment in an email

  • Identifying fraudulent attachments

  • Using the “arrange by” function

  • Creating a new email folder

  • Emptying the “deleted messages” folder

  • Logging off my email account

VIEWING DOCUMENTS
ONLINE

Estimated length of time: 1.5 hours 

Learn how to search the Internet; use a database and consult digital documents; recognizing the layout of a website; use drop-down menus and understand the difference between a search engine and a Web Browser. This workshop explores four websites related to four employment sectors.  

OBJECTIVES

  • Using the Internet

  • Using a search engine

  • Browsing the Internet

  • Using different options in Google

  • Recognizing the layout of a website

  • Navigating a website

  • Viewing documents online

  • Understanding how a database is organized

  • Using a database to find information

Workshop 3

COMPLETING A TRANSACTION
ONLINE

Estimated length of time: 1.5 hours 

Learn to create and access a user account on a website; recognize a secure website and resetting a forgotten password; updating items in a shopping cart; completing a transaction on the Internet;  filling out a form and a time sheet online. This workshop gives special attention to the importance of protecting personnal information. 

OBJECTIVES

  • Recognizing a secure website

  • Filling out an online form

  • Creating a user account

  • Accessing an existing account

  • Resetting a forgotten password

  • Knowing the features of an online store

  • Choosing items to purchase online

  • Updating items in a shopping cart

  • Completing a transaction on the internet

USING TECHNOLOGY TO COORDINATE, COLLABORATE & LEARN IN THE WORKPLACE

Estimated length of time: 2.4 hours 

Learn to use cloud computing tools; become familiar with OneDrive, Skype, Doodle and the functions of the Outlook Calendar; discover SkillCatch©e-doceo and informal teaching in the workplace. This workshop is completely customizable and develops skills that support collaborative work.

  • Sharing a calendar

  • Completing a survey on the Internet

  • Communicating through instant messaging

  • Participating in a teleconference

  • Recognizing the qualities of online training
